Anglo-Saxon England, Secondary Series (710-760), Sceat, Saltire standard, variety P1h, double croix ancrée with voided pellet cross, lobes closed in quarters, within double linear border, rev. beaded saltire in double linear-striated standard, pellets in angles, tufa to each side, 0.91g (SL 13-150; SCBI 69, 726 this coin; Spink 833A), small striking split, otherwise of good fabric and nicely toned, a pleasingly good very fine, very rare.

This is a simplified and less decorated version of the type represented by finds from near Canterbury and Tilbury (Metcalf, Thrymsas and Sceattas, III. pp. 531). The find distribution, with this piece and another from Domburg, suggests they originate from south eastern England, not East Anglia as previously thought. This coin has a duplicate listing on EMC (2009.0069), but the 2003 Coin Register confirms the earlier and presumed more accurate provenance.
