Merovingia Francia, National Series (c. 660-675), AV Tremissis, Wico-in-Pontio [Quentovic], Anglus, +VVICCO FIT, diademed and draped bust right, rev. ANGLO MONET, cross on steps, 1.23g, 0° (SCBI 69, 1086 this coin; cf. Belfort 4966; Prou 1130), some surface pockmarking and of waterworn appearance, otherwise a bolder fine, the reverse very fine.

The name Quentovic refers to the important early medieval trading settlement in the Canche estuary that was deserted after the Carolingian era. Nowadays it is identified with La Calotterie near Montreuil in the Pas-de-Calais. Anglus was the most prolific moneyer of the eight known from this region, with his signature perhaps even relating to two individuals (a father [c. 625-635] and son 'Anglus II' [c. 660-675]) who operated there between the first and third quarters of the 7th Century. The etymology of the name, and indeed their proximity to Britain are both highly suggestive of a close familial English connection.
