Anglo-Saxon England, Primary Series (680-710), Sceat, 'Saroaldo' Group, type 11, neatly modelled bust right with braided hair, diadem across forehead, lentoid eye, and crescent ear, pointed nose and pellet lips, cross pattée before, SA[R]OALDO surrounds, rev. FIT | VR in beaded standard, central pellet, recumbent S above, beaded T right, I below, tufa left enclosing pellet, 1.13g, 315° (cf. SL 12-10; SCBI 69, 136; T&S pp. 147-51, 151-4; Gannon 49, 128, 172, no. 114, 174, 177, no. 142 and 143, 184 no. 22, 185, and Fig. 4.31; EMC 1995.0091, same dies; Spink 784) a recent edge break subsequently repaired, otherwise good very fine and of the highest rarity.
