Anglo-Saxon England, Primary Series (680-710), Sceat, Series Z, type 66, broad head facing, with almond-shaped eyes and bell-shaped hair style curling outward, long moustache and beard forked into W shape, beaded border enclosed within wire lines, rev. long-legged 'hound' or 'wild boar' in running posture right, claws below, tail raised with bead finial, ears erect, 1.20g, 90° (SL 102-10; Abramson, 2012b, plate; SCBI 69, 114 this coin; T&S pp. 133-9, 140-5; Gannon 28, 29, 128-9, 161, Figs. 2.7a, 4.32; North 145; Spink 782 plate coin), an exemplary specimen for type, toned, nearly extremely fine, rare.

Conventionally, the reverse creature is described as a hound, but in Sceatta List, Abramson prefers to envisage this as a wild boar, a venerated symbol of power and fertility for both the Romans and Celts.
