Merovingia Francia, National Series (c. 600-675), AV Tremissis, Argentomagus (Argenton-sur-Creuse), ARGENTOM, cross pattée, rev. + EMERI MO, eight-limbed cross, 1.20g, 0° (SCBI 69, 1077 this coin; Metcalf 2016, no. 4; Abdy & Williams 236), good very fine.

Tremisses with a 'multiple' cross of six or eight limbs constitute a small corpus amongst recorded specimens. Although many are difficult to attribute, it appears that mints displaying 6-rayed crosses are more plentiful in western France, whereas 8-rayed crosses are more common in the east, and into Switzerland. The identification of Argentom with Argenton-sur-Creuse (Indre, central France) hints at a rather 'eccentric' use of this cross variant.
