UNITED KINGDOM. Elizabeth II, 1952-.
CuproNickel 50 pence, 2009. Royal Mint.
To celebrate the London 2012 Olympics a number of coins were issued from 2011. However, the Royal Mint started preparing for the event much earlier and issued the Athletics coin in 2009. The mintage was initially limited to 100,000 but was later reduced to 50,000. However, collectors' appetite for the coin was small and the number actually sold was only 19,751.
