UNITED KINGDOM. ALDERNEY. Elizabeth II, 1952-.
Gold 2 pounds (double sovereign), 2019. Hattons of London. Proof Una & the Lion.
The depiction of Victoria as Lady Una, calmly directing the enormous beast by her side, the Lion (representing England), was a clever analogy, using the characters from Edmund Spenser's poem The Faerie Queene (written in 1590). It was the first time in history a British monarch was depicted on a coin as a fictional character. The Alderney 5 pound is certainly equally as impressive as the Royal Mint's version and it is in our opinion vastly underrated. Considering the relative affordability of this coin, it seems to offer an attractive investment proposition to the collector-investor of top British material.
Bust portrait of Elizabeth II facing left wearing George IV state diadem. Inscription: ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REGINA ALDERNEY C. I. 2019. /Depiction of Queen Victoria as Una with the lion as designed by William Wyon. Inscription DIRIGE DEUS GRESSUS MEOS, DOUBLE SOVEREIGN.
