Nova Scotia copper 1/2 Penny Token 1816 F15 Brown NGC, NS-29 (Extremely Rare; this piece). 26mm. 4.9gm. Plain edge. Coin alignment. This previously unknown type was discovered in 1988. It appeared in the Torex Auction 88, Lot 1124, and comes with the original auction ticket. This is the piece listed, and pictured, in the latest edition of "Canadian Colonial Tokens" (or the Charlton catalog). It was not known, and unlisted, in previous catalogs. The obverse pictures a warehouse, surrounded by a wreath, with the date (1816) at 6 o'clock. The reverse has crossed spades with the legend, "Half Penny Token." Both sides show a circular cut, or flan flaw (?), starting at the edges and going across approximately 70% of both obverse, and reverse. A Unique item and as the Charlton catalog states, "This Canadian colonial token discovered in 1988 was the first significant find in over 75 years. This amazing piece sold for $5500 U.S. at the Torex auction.
