German States
Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. Rudolf August 4 Taler 1685-HH/RB AU58 NGC, Zellerfeld mint, KM565, Dav-LS110a, Duve-4, Knyphausen-Unl., Knigge-745, Preussag Collection-108, Welter-1833. 104.24gm. Variety with overpunched mintmaster's initials. A beautifully toned representative of this Rudolf August multiple taler, depicting a lute player standing on a snail, with a picturesque city and country view in the background. Glossy luster and design motifs that have been minimally impacted by wear confirm a strong level of preservation for the type, as a spectacular arrangement of iridescent coloration frames the obverse periphery, gripping the raised design motifs. Rarely seen as a type, particularly so in this visually impressive state, with a clear "4" stamp to the reverse indicating the large denomination.
