SICILY, Syracuse, Deinomenid Tyranny, (c.485-466 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.49 g), struck under Gelon, c.480-478 B.C., obv. quadriga driven to right by bearded male charioteer, Nike flying right crowning horses, rev. **SUPAKOSION* around, head of Arethusa to right, hair slightly waved and turned up behind under diadem of beads, four dolphins around, (cf.S.913, Boehringer series VIb, 80 [V37/R52], SNG ANS 20, SNG Copenhagen 204 (same dies). Silver and blue toning, well centred early die, very fine and rare.
