PAIR TO KIA: British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 809 Pte. S.T.Barker 41 Bn. A.I.F. Both medals impressed. Display mounted, some contact marks, otherwise good very fine.
Sydney Thompson Barker, farm hand, age 22, born at Helidon, Queensland; Enl.20Sep1915 at Brisbane, Qld in B Coy 41Bn; to Enoggera, Brisbane for training 25Sep1915; Emb.16May1916; to France 24Nov1916; KIA 05Oct1917 in the field at the Battle of Broodseinde Ridge, Paschendaele, Belgium (the 3rd Battle of Ypres); body not recovered; Commemorated at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial at Leper, Belgium; Sydney Barker's brothers 1003 Pte Francis Gibson Barker and 814 Pte Robert Woodall Barker both served in 41 Bn, AIF. Francis was gassed and wounded. Both returned to Australia.
