GROUP OF FOUR: 1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. QX54284 E.G.Costar. All medals impressed. Display mounted, extremely fine.

Together with four photos, two both the same being one small and one medium, of 'Ted' Costar with his brother, both in uniform, another one of two native boys wearing soldier's hats and holding guns at their side, reverse penned, 'Milne Bay 1942-3, Locals', and one of a gravesite with one cross marked 'Unknown Australian Soldier' and on the reverse penned. 'Milne Bay 1942-3'.

Edward George Costar, born 07Jul1920 at Brisbane, Qld; Enl.06Oct1941 in CMF; trf to AIF 09May1943 with 9Bn; fought at Battle of Milne Bay; RTA for leave; sentenced at Court Martial to 70 days detention on 11Oct1944 for being AWL from 2200 hours 1Jul1944 until he surrendered himself at LTD (Leave and Transit Depot) Brisbane 1000 hours 04Sep1944, in defence claiming he had left to see his mother whom he believed to be seriously ill; returned to New Guinea and fought at Battles of Bougainville, Artillery Ridge, Mosiegetta, Hongoria and Puriata Rivers; Disch.04Apr1946 at Redbank, Qld; on Saturday 20Jan1951 at Our Lady Help of Christians Church at Hendra, Edward married Joan Frauenfelder, in a joint wedding ceremony with her sister Maureen and her partner Stanley Baldwin, both daughters of ex Ipswich Brothers rugby league player, Eric Frauenfelder, who represented Australia at fullback in 1924; Edward George Costar died in 1985 at Brisbane, Qld.
