HANSEN, Ian, (1948 -), oil on canvas, 'Marco Polo", c1990, (100cm x 75cm), signed. Very fine.
The Marco Polo was an emigrant ship that plied the route from the UK to Australia in the 1850's after the gold rush. The fast ship made 25 round trips in record time, returning with thousands of ounces of gold from the Australian fields. Such a large number of emigrants arrived on this ship that one in twenty Australians can trace their roots to the Marco Polo.
