JAPAN. Koban (1 Ryo), ND Keicho Era (ca. 1601-95). PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield.
Fr-9.1; JNDA-09-13 (8); Bank of Japan-Vol. 2-Unlisted; JV-B101; Hartill-8.15. Weight: 17.73 gms. 72.31 x 38.69 mm. This highly desirable and problem free early Koban exhibits minimal signs of handling, and should be considered VERY RARE quality as such. The chisel marks, in five columns, are shallow and closely spaced together, indicative of the fine crenellation normally associated with the Kobans of this era. Another characteristic is that all of the stamps on the obverse and reverse are slightly uneven with aspects that are obscured by the chisel marks. Usually when appearing on the market, this type exhibits many chopmarks, however this remarkabe example displays no signs of maltreatment or abuse, making it quite the treat for the specialist. Pale golden tone with hints of richer coloration on the obverse further compliments its pleasing appearance and desirability.

From the Pinnacle Collection.

Estimate: $7000.00- $10000.00
