CHINA. Dollar, Year 10 (1921). PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield.
L&M-864; K-876; Hsu-19; WS-0101. Reeded edge variety. President Hsu Shih Chang and Pavilion with legend at the bottom of the reverse. One of the finest of the type that has been seen at PCGS, this glistening Gem is exceeded by just seven other examples and presents a razor-sharp strike and nearly blast white surfaces. The radiance is quite captivating and should allow this specimen to soar to a rather lofty level that is RARELY seen for the type.

An incredibly popular and desirable type believed to have been a pattern issue, it now appears that these were, in fact, more medallic in nature, and meant to be given out upon the opening of the Peking Union Medical College (PUMC). Initially designed with a blank field below the pavilion for recipients' names to be engraved, the design was altered to contain the three struck characters instead, as the engraving proved difficult on the initial batch.

Estimate: $40000.00- $60000.00
