CHINA. Dollar, Year 10 (1921). NGC MS-62.
L&M-864; K-676; Hsu-19; WS-0101. Reeded Edge variety. Obverse: President Hsu Shih Chang in formal attire facing slightly left; Reverse: Pavilion at Peking Union Medical College Hospital with legend at the bottom. A RARE issue in this grade, the present specimen offers incredible brilliance and radiance, with an appeal that verges upon prooflike status. A hint of burnished toning is noted near the upper peripheries on the obverse, merely augmenting its already robust appeal.

An incredibly popular and desirable type believed to have been a pattern issue, it now appears that these were, in fact, more medallic in nature, and meant to be given out upon the opening of the Peking Union Medical College (PUMC). Initially designed with a blank field below the pavilion for recipients' names to be engraved, the design was altered to contain the three struck characters instead, as the engraving proved difficult on the initial batch.

Estimate: $20000.00- $30000.00
