'Houck's Panacea' counterstamps are mostly found on Liberty Bust half-dollars. Dr. Jacob Houck first started selling his botanic Panacea at $1.50 a bottle from 121 West Baltimore Street, later moving to 16 Hanover Street, Baltimore. He advertised that it could be 'taken in safety by all ages and in all diseases' and claiminig it could cure anything from gas to yellow fever to gout.
