Dennis Cooper (Major D. R. Cooper, T.D., B.Sc. [Eng.]), joined the Royal Mint as an engineer in 1937 and in 1960 was appointed Chief Engineer and Superintendent, the youngest in the Mint's history. He retired in 1964. He wrote extensively on coins and minting.
