'On the 14th of October 1920 IRA Volunteer William O'Connell was shot and killed during an attack on an armoured car on the Phibsboro Road, Dublin outside the Munster and Leinster Bank. William O'Connell was born in 1899 with an address at 5 Tirconnell Road, Inchicore, Dublin at the time of his death, he was a native of Glantawe near Mallow County Cork. He was serving as an apprentice engineer at Great Southern and Western Railway, Inchicore, Dublin. He was a member of D Company, 1st Battalion, Dublin Brigade, IRA.'. Attendance at his funeral was limited to just 50 'relatives and friends'. Information from the Irish Medals website.
