John V Palaeologus, with Anna of Savoy (Regent). 1341-1391. Æ Assarion (16mm, 1.86 g, 6h). Class II. Thessalonica mint. Struck 1365-1369. St Demetrius, nimbate and in military attire, standing facing, holding spear and shield; a star and foliage to left and right / John V and Anna of Savoy standing facing, John left, holding a labarum-tipped scepter, Anna holding a trefoil-tipped scepter, between them; a star descending from cloud above; stars and floral ornaments in field. DOC 1192; LPC p. 246, 2; PCPC 284a; SB 2516. Dark green and brown patina. Near VF. Extremely rare, two others listed on Coin Archives.
