INDIA. Mughal Empire. Rupee, AH 1068 Year 1 (1658). Ahmadabad Mint. Muhammad Murad Baksh. NGC MS-63.
KM-272.1; BMC-693-5. One-year type. The designs are boldly rendered, while the luster remains soft yet undiminished. VERY RARE quality for this fleeting type, this being the single finest example to thus far be certified by NGC.

Jumping at an opportunity, Murad Baksh declared himself emperor in November of 1657 after his father had fallen ill. Engaged in war shortly thereafter, he joined hands with his brother, Aurangzeb, in an attempt to defeat Dara Shikhoh, a heir-apparent to the Mughal throne. On July 7, 1658, while intoxicated, Aurangzeb had Murad Baksh captured, and he was transferred to a Gwalior prison. After three years there, he was executed. As the ageless axiom states: Be careful what you wish for.

Estimate: $600.00- $800.00
