Herbert Alfred Humphrey (1868-1951) was the inventor of the Humphrey Gas Pump, and was Managing Director of the Pump and Power Co Ltd, which changed its name to the Humphrey Pump Co. The medal was awarded for his paper, 'The Mond Gas-Producer Plant and its Application'.
