The cast iron bascule bridge, with. twin parallel swing sections at its northern end, was designed by Stanisław Kierbedź and Alexander Brullov. After the death of the Tsar it was renamed the Nikolayevsky Bridge and again, after the Revolution, the Pyotr Schmidt Bridge.
