The bridge and medal commemorate the 25th anniversary of Alexander's reign. The Alexander Bridge crossed the lower Volga near Syzran and was designed by Nikolay Belelyubsky and Konstantin Mikhaylovsky. It comprised 13 spans, each over 100 metres and when it was built it was, at over 1,400 meters, it was the longest bridge in Europe. After the Revolution, it was called the Syzransky bridge though now it is known by both its names.
