Marcellis was a pioneer of the cast-iron girder bridge, such as the Marcellis Bridge over the Scheldt River, Ghent, 1844, and a somewhat similar technique was used to roof the Antwerp Stock Exchange, as depicted on the medal though, sadly, destroyed by fire in 1858.
