SASANIAN KINGS. Varhran (Bahram) IV. AD. 420-438. PB (Lead) Unit (3.32 gm; 16 mm). Obverse, bust turning right, with monogram of Scared Cypress also known as Zoroastrian Sarv (Also known as Cypress of Abarkuh) with base and ribbons flowing upward on the right of the tree. Reverse, crude strike with fire altar and attendants. Small scrape on reverse field. Lovely strike. Choice Good VF. Nice find earthen patina. Being extremely rare for the king with this symbol and as lead units makes this piece excessively rare. This tree type is considered to have been the most favored choice in all the Persian gardens as it symbolizes life. The oldest of these trees is known to be called the Sarv e- Abarkuh in the province of Yazd which is one of the most scared Zoroastrian sites from Achaemenid times to present.
