Hudson's Bay Company Counterstamped Imitative "Spade" Guinea Trade Token 1790-Dated VF (Lightly Cleaned) Br-Unl., FT-Unl., Gingras-215a (R8). 26mm. 3.76gm. Reeded edge. Medal alignment. Imitating a Spade Guinea of George III (cf. KM609), though likely struck in brass. Stamped H.B.C. H (the H is believed to be for Hazelton). Only the third example of this extremely rare Hudson's Bay token we have handled, the last two forming part of lot 29141 in our January 2016 Auction 3044, and stemming from the Belzberg Collection; Gingras' R8 rating indicates only 3-5 known. Notably missing from the Robins Collection. Sold with old collector envelope detailing provenance.
