Edward VII silver "Calgary Assembly of Indian Tribes - Indian Peace" Medal 1901 AU (Cleaned), 65mm (150mm with suspension). 121.20gm. By F.W. Ellis and Co. An extremely rare medal both in this composition and with the original suspension and ribbon still intact. According to Jamieson, Edward VII ordered this medal struck in silver to commemorate his visit to Canada in autumn of 1901 soon after his coronation, with one to be presented to each of the Head Chiefs of the six tribes who had welcomed him. Even in the 18 years since we originally offered this piece, it is still the only that we have encountered with the ribbon and ornate brooch showing a Native American in a canoe.
