Augustus. Denarius; Augustus; 27 BC-14 AD, Pergamum, 19-18 BC, Denarius, 3.22g. Sutherland, Rev. num. 1973, p. 138, no. 58 (these dies, IV/2); BM-681; Paris-993, pl. XXXIX (same rev. die); C-257 (50 Fr.); RIC-526. Obv: Head bare r., [AVG]V[STVS] below, line border. Rx: SIGNIS / [P]ARTHICIS / RECEPTIS in three lines across field, line border. The reverse type commemorates Augustus' recovery of the legionary standards lost to the Parthians by Crassus, L. Decidius Saxa, and Mark Antony. Rare: in 1973 Sutherland recorded only 22 specimens of all varieties of this denarius, struck from just five reverse dies.. VF
