Rx: P M TR P V COS III P P around, S C in exergue, Emperor seated l. on curule chair holding globe and short scepter. Though common on sestertii of 245 (TR P II COS), this emperor-seated type is very rare on sestertii of 248 (TR P V COS III). In his survey of the coins of Philip and family in major public collections, Roger Bland found only three specimens, in the BM, Paris, and Vienna, of this emperor-seated sestertius dated TR P V.
