Lepidus and Octavian. AR Denarius, 42 BC. Military mint traveling with Lepidus in Italy. Obv. LEPIDVS PONT. MAX. III. V. R.P.C. Bare head of Lepidus right. Rev. CAESAR IMP. III. VIR. R.P.C. Bare head of Octavian right. Cr. 495/2a. AR. 3.45 g. 16.00 mm. RR. An attractive example, of very fine style for this typically crude issue. Sound metal and banker's marks. Areas of striking weakness, otherwise VF.

This very rare issue was struck by Lepidus to commemorate the foundation of the Second Triumvirate, just before the campaign against Brutus and Cassius in 42 BC.
