SAFAVID: Isma'il I, 1501-1524, AR larin (4.95g), NM, ND, A-A2588, seond style of longer flan folded over once, with a few parts of the royal phrase visible on the obverse; the millsail reverse and the thickness confirm the attribution to Isma'il I, VF, RR. This is the earliest style of the larin, probably still struck only at the city of Lar in southern Iran, most likely for trade with Iran via the Portuguese, who established their first settlement in Iran in 1507, on the island of Hormuz.
