Edward the Black Prince (1362-72), gold Guyennois d'Or, third issue (c.1362), Bordeaux Mint, armoured crowned figure of King walking right, holding quartered shield and sword, standing over opposing lions, all within Gothic portico, initial mark lyre, Latin legend and outer toothed border surrounding, ED DP Gn'S REGIS AnGLIE P'InCPS ACITAnIE, rev. B mint mark supine at centre of quatrefoil in cross fleury, lis and lion in opposing angles, all within sixteen arc tressure, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding, double pellet in annulet stops, +GLIA** In EXCELCIS** DEO** ET In** TRA** PAX** hOmInIBVS, 3.68g (Elias 141 RR; Schneider 32; AGC 151 dies 3/a; S.8122). Toned, well centred, a little weak around rim and in parts of design, otherwise very fine and very rare.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on obverse "Edward first born of the King of England, Prince of Aquitaine" and on reverse "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men" taken from the Bible.
There are thought to be currently only 11 examples of this variety known, five of which are institutionalised.
