Italy, Palmanova, Siege Issue, banknotes, 1848 (3), 3 Lire (S.248); 2 Lire (S.247); 50 Centesimi (S.245). All with marks of folding, otherwise of good fabric, very fine. (3)
These notes were issued by the city while under siege during the upheavals of 1848. Palmanova is a Renaissance city built in the shape of a star. In spite of its function as a fort, the city fell twice to besiegers, in 1814 to Napoleon and in 1848 to the Austrians.
