USA (Dahlonega mint), $2-1/2 coronet Liberty, 1843-D, large D, NGC XF details / cleaned.The large-D mintmark (variety 4-I) is considerably scarcer than the small-D type; out of a total mintage of 36,209 1843-D quarter eagles, it is believed that just 3,537 coins were struck with this larger style mintmark. Lightly cleaned, non-toned surfaces with muted luster and some bagmarks, bold details in areas such as across the eagle's shield and wings.
