British naval flintlock blunderbuss, ca. 1755, marked with maker Whately.2420 grams, 35" long, 23" barrel.Octagon-to-round barrel, typically flared at end (to 1-1/2" bore), uncleaned and original, stamped with old museum inventory number 3291 on top, lightly pitted steel lockplate (with brass pan) engraved with maker's name WHATELY (a Birmingham gunmaker from 1734-1767), unadorned brass furniture, replacement wooden ramrod, the lock moving but not functional and the wooden stock cracked (but stable) under the muzzle, nice piece overall.With Sedwick photo-certificate.
