Pedro II 80 Reis 1697-(B) AU Details (Obverse Damage) NGC, Bahia mint, KM78, LMB-117, Bentes-86.04. A survivor to say the least, displaying an even charcoal patina and essentially unimpacted by exchange. The current example is the first and only of this date to be seen by NGC or PCGS, in a condition unexpected from such an early colonial minor; the Standard Catalog of World Coins only lists this series up to XF40.
