Minas Gerais. João Prince Regent Counterstamped 960 Reis ND (1808) XF45 NGC, KM248, LMB-453. Crowned arms counterstamp on the obverse, banded globe on the reverse (AU Strong). Struck on a Charles IV 8 Reales 1797 Mo-FM from Mexico (cf. KM109). A more uncommon host coin than the typical Bolivian or Peruvian issues, boasting sublime surfaces teeming with lilac and russet highlights and scant traces of original luster to the recesses. NGC notes only two examples with Mexican host coins of any variety, making an opportunity to acquire this counterstamped issue as rare as the coin itself.
