Elizabeth I (1558-1603) gold Angel ND (1590-1592) MS63 NGC, Tower mint, Hand mintmark, Sixth issue, S-2531, N-2005, Schneider-790. 5.16gm. (hand) ELIZABETH • D' • G' • ANG' • FR • REGINA •, nimbate, armored figure of the Archangel Michael spearing the dragon (the devil) with cross-tipped staff / (hand) A • DNO • FACTVM • EST • ISTVD: ET: EST • MIRABI' •, cross over shield and ship, flanked by E - rose. Only the third Elizabethan Angel of any variety we have sold in this grade, and presently unsurpassed in the NGC census. Though a bit softly struck over the angel's face and the corresponding area of the reverse, the designs are otherwise remarkably clear and bathed in a glittering golden luster. Some light scuffing is noted over portions of St. Michael, this likely being all that precludes a higher technical grade.
