George II gold 5 Guineas 1748 AU Details (Repaired, Polished) NGC, KM586.2, S-3666, Schneider-565. A modestly circulated example of this highly popular, large mid-18th-century gold type, displaying the mature bust of George II as King of Great Britain. Generally well struck, with some moderate wear leaving less detail in the monarch's hair and throughout the other highpoints, though with all devices still clearly outlined. The noted repair work appears to have been performed by an area of light pitting in the left obverse field, though this does not readily stand out in hand. Noted issues aside, the visual presentation of the piece is well-balanced, making this a worthy candidate for the collector seeking a less-circulated type representative without breaking into the higher price territory required to attain a finer selection.
