George IV gold Sovereign 1821 MS65 PCGS, KM682, S-3800, Marsh-5. Representing the very peak of attainable certified quality for the date, this exquisite gem example of the 1821 circulation issue Sovereign stands out not only for its extraordinary condition, but also for its pedigree, of great interest to series collectors. According to the previous 2004 auction listing of this very example, Dr. Terner himself long struggled to locate a quality representative of this date. In this endeavor, he eventually gave up, and only later chanced upon this jewel representative, one which he finally considered worthy of inclusion in his collection. Indeed, it is not difficult to see the appeal that Terner himself saw in this offering. Its luster is both abundant and marvelous, the surfaces highly satiny and simply radiating yellow-gold warmth, essentially undisturbed save for the faintest instances of trivial handling friction. All stated, a unique opportunity for the collector who desires only the "best of the best."
