Great Britain
George IV gold 2 Pounds 1823 MS66+ NGC, KM690, S-3798. A bold and flashy representative that may easily be considered one of the finest conditional survivors extant. Its high rims, opulent device frosting, and nearly cameo contrast achieved between these and the reflective fields all culminate in a visual presentation that is arguably reminiscent of a Proof issue. The strike is nothing less than complete, George's fine locks of hair all picked out in high relief, the reverse motif of the rearing St. George similarly striking in its forceful projection toward the viewer's eye. With only trivial wisps in the fields limiting the offering from further heights of conditional preservation, this high-class gem should easily find central placement within a carefully curated cabinet of British or world gold coinage.
