Ancients
MACEDON. Thessalonica. Marc Antony and Octavian, as Triumvirs (43-33 BC). AE (28mm, 23.49 gm, 5h). XF, altered surfaces. Dated Year 5 (37 BC). ΘΕΣΣAΛONIKEΩN•EΛEYΘEPIAΣ, draped bust of Eleutheria right, seen from front; E (date) in left field / M•ANT•AYT-Γ•KAI•AYT, Nike advancing left, wreath upward in right hand, palm in left over shoulder. RPC 1551. CRI 672. Glossy olive surfaces. A truly exceptional example of this intriguing issue, perfectly centered with full legends, and decidedly rare thus. Green patina, somewhat smoothed in fields. Evidence of altered surfaces, thus ineligible for encapsulation.
