A choice Gandharan stucco head from the Indus Valley, a. 4th - 5th Century A.D. This superbly detailed sculpture is 3-3/4 inches high, is masterfully carved from stucco and depicts a youth with a beautifully detailed, wavy coif held in place by a braided headdress that has flowers woven into it. Remnants of red and black pigment typical of the Hadda types remain in the grooves. A lovely example in exceptional condition. Mounted on stand.
