This type was originally given to Waterford by Jasper Burns (hence the W- reference number) on the basis of an attribution in Kunker Auction 137, 11 March 2008, lot 3331. Burns comments in his footnote that 'the portrait and crown much more closely resemble those on the Dublin issue of Richard III than on the Waterford coins of Edward'. The present specimen removes any doubt about the issuer while offering only tantalising glimpses of the mint name. The cataloguers, as well as an independent expert, feel that on the basis of the letters visible, an attribution to Dublin is the more likely
