Honorius, 393-423. Solidus (Gold plated copper or bronze, 21 mm, 3.82 g, 5 h), an ancient counterfeit with an obverse of Honorius and a reverse of Arcadius, uncertain mint, c. 403-408 or later. D N ARCADI - VS P F AVG Helmeted, diademed and cuirassed bust of Honorius facing, holding spear over his right shoulder and with shield, ornamented with a horseman spearing a fallen foe, over his left. Rev. NOVA SPES REIPVBLICAE S / CONOB Victory seated right on cuirass, supporting on her left knee a shield on which she inscribes XX/XXX. cf. Depeyrot 54/2 = RIC 29 (known only for Arcadius!). Good very fine.

An interesting contemporary forgery with considerable remaining gold plating.
