ILLYRIA. Apollonia. mid 1st century BC. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 3.85 g, 5 h), struck under the magistrates Deinokrateos and Philokles. ΔΕΙΝΟΚΡΑΤΕΟΣ Laureate head of Apollo to left. Rev. Α-Π-Ο-Λ / ΦΙΛΟΚΛΗΣ / ΓΕΝ Three nymphs hand-in-hand, the two outer holding lagobola, dancing around burning bitumen. HGC 3.1, 8. Cf. Maier 141-3 (for magistrate Deinokrateos). Lightly toned. Very fine.
