TROAS. Skepsis (?). 4th century BC. Tetrachalkon (Bronze, 20 mm, 9.04 g, 3 h). Countermark of an uncertain male head to right. Rev. Countermark of the forepart of a winged horse to right, within circular incuse. Cf. BMC 12 (Troas, Skepsis). Dark green patina. Good fine.
As there is no trace remaining of the types of the host coin, identification to Skepsis is uncertain. However, the same countermark appearing on the reverse here is found on BMC 12. Additionally, both countermarks appear on a coin recently sold by Leu Numismatik (Leu 4, 24 June 2018, 253) where the types of the host coin were clear, allowing certain attribution.
