SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Demetrios I Soter, 162-150 BC. (Bronze, 15.5 mm, 2.65 g, 2 h), Seleukeia-on-the Tigris. Head of Demetrios I to right, wearing elephant's skin headdress. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ Athena seated left on throne, holding spear over far shoulder in right hand, shield by side (?). HGC 9, 843. SC 1696. Brown patina with some red. Light smoothing, otherwise, about very fine.
The shield that should be behind the throne upon which Athena sits seems to be lacking on this die, although it could be just a matter of it not being visible due to the coin's condition.
