SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Alexander I Balas, 152-145 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 3.84 g, 11 h), Commagenian(?) imitiation. Diademed head of Alexander I to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ ΘΕΟΠΑΤΟΡΟΣ ΕΥΕΡΓΕΤΟΥ Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in right hand and resting his left on bow. Cf. HGC 9, 887 (for the original type). Toned and unusual. Nearly very fine.
While Commagenian imitations of Demetrios I Soter (162-150 BC) are relatively common, those of Alexander I are not. This particular imitation shares its dies with another sold several years ago (see Rauch E12, 23 March 2013, 231).
